ARC Review
Thank you to Book Sirens and the authors M&K (Evelyn Ward) for a copy of The Queen's Blade. I read this book over the course of this past weekend ... here are my thoughts. (very minor spoilers ahead)
The Queen's Blades are four hired assassins, hand chosen from the Queen's witch army. The story follows our FMC, Fey, who is one of the Queen's Blades. The Blades are down one, having lost one of their sisters (Alice) prior. They are handled by Dameon, a witch with much less strength than the witches that make up the Queen's Blades.
Fey tries to find out who killed Alice and in the course of this journey she falls for a Vampire (Alastair) and unravels a major coverup by none other than the Queen herself.
The story is told mainly from Fey's point of view with the occasional chapter from another character's POV. The main character is likable as are most of the supporting characters. The events are suspenseful. There is some spice for those that want that. I found some of the spice scenes a little hard to follow and the authors could maybe find a few more names for a 🍆 because it was a little bit repetitive but that was the only area that I noticed repetition of words.
Oh, and Alastair hisses a lot but he's a vampire so...
There are some twists and I was able to predict all of them. I no longer judge books based on whether they can surprise me with twists though so I think someone who hasn't read thousands of twisty psychological thrillers will be pleasantly surprised at the twists.
The story moved a little slow in the beginning but I did find that the second half of the book picked up a bit. The authors also laid the groundwork for the second book in the series. I'm looking forward to what they do with the next in the series.
Overall, it's a fun read and it leaves you looking forward to the next book in the series.
