Quick Read for Spooky Season

Jayelle Ravenshade

The 'I'm a Therapist' series has been popping up on my BookTok and Bookstagram feeds on and off for years so when I realized that it was a quick, 120 page book, I took a few hours to start the series.

The first thing to clarify, that apparently quite a few people on Goodreads can't figure out, Dr. Harper is a fictional character and that these aren't actually the stories from a psychologist. Quite a few people on Goodreads are very upset because they think a psych just published a bunch of their patient files and cases... yikes. This is a psychological thriller and not actual patient case files.

Dr. Harper lays out the stories of 6 patients that he's had throughout the course of his career. Each patient seems to be more out there than the last. From a patient that thinks they are a cow to a patient that becomes a school shooter, the stories are bizarre and out there.

Then come the twists and the 6 patient files seemingly blend together to create Dr. Harper's fate. Some of the twists were well set up and you see them coming from the beginning of the book while others were a little less intuitive.

This was a super quick read that I was able to get through in less than two hours. It's a great quick read if you're not looking for a lengthy time investment. I'd also call this a good palette cleanser if you have just wrapped up lengthy or deep book. The patient files read as 6 short stories so it's easy to keep turning to the next page and then the next. When everything comes together at the end, there's enough going on that the reader may have a few 'what the heck' moments. Even if you are a super sleuth and figure everything out by the end, it's entertaining and engaging enough that I think you'll enjoy the ride.

Rating: 🌮🌮🌮🌮
