ARC Review
Thank you to the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review... here are my thoughts.
This is a no spoilers review.
The Nursery's Rhyme follows two detectives, Rockefeller (Rock) and Dixie as they try to solve a string of infant kidnappings. The kidnappings all happen so single mothers of girls and the kidnapper leaves behind their calling card- a bingo ball and items that reference a famous childhood nursery rhyme (3 kittens and their mittens, 3 blind mice, etc.).
The story focuses more on the detectives and their personal lives than the specific details of the cases and we learn about how they struggle with the various aspects of the case. The banter between Rock and Dixie is also enjoyable and I appreciated their relationship throughout the book.
The kidnappings go on for a while, with the detectives getting more discouraged as time goes on. It seems that the kidnapper could be someone inside the police force, one of the fathers of the infants, various other people that we run across throughout the story.
The layout of the book reminded me a lot of Patricia Gibney's Lottie Parker series as it follows the lead detectives and their personal lives more so than all the gritty details of the cases. If you want a detective mystery without blood, gore and intricate forensic details (like Karin Slaughter's Grant County or Will Trent series), this is it.
I'd consider this book a cozy detective mystery that's a quick fun read. The only thing I'd change is that I felt the ending was a little rushed. I would have loved a few more chapters to lead me to the kidnapper. But, it was still enjoyable and I had a good time.
This was my first Trish Arrowsmith book and you can find The Nursery's Rhyme and her other books on Kindle Unlimited or for purchase on Amazon.
This is a 🌮🌮🌮🌮 read!
