This is an ARC Review. Thank you to Rochelle Wilcox for a copy of the book.

Sifa, our female main character, is an elf in hiding, after escaping an elven prison. She now works as a spy, and undercover agent when she gets assigned a mission with Fhord.
Sifa tries to hate Fhord from the beginning but can't help but be drawn to him and when she finds out that her mission with him involves going back to the very prison she escaped, well, she's less than thrilled. As Fhord and Sifa travel and scheme on just how they are going to successfully complete their assignment, pieces of their backstories start to come to light. Both characters have their own internal struggles but neither can deny that there is something drawing them to one another.
Struggling with trust, Sifa starts to let Fhord in on some of her secrets, ones that could get her killed. There are several situations where Sifa and Fhord have to lie to others to keep the other one safe and it does nothing but hurt the trust that they thought they had built so far.
I can't say much else without giving away critical points but I really enjoyed this one. That said, it is high fantasy and if you are brand new to fantasy, it could be somewhat intimidating. The author did include a dictionary though and after a few chapters, I didn't need to refer to it much throughout the rest of the book so you can catch on quick!
This is an adult book with adult scenes. I'll give it a 🌶️🌶️🌶️ for spice and 🌮🌮🌮🌮.
The book ends on a cliffhanger though so reader beware! The author is planning to release the others in the series quickly so I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!
