This is an ARC review. Thank you to the author, Matt Spencer, for sharing a copy of his book with me.
Chapel of the Falcon follows Frederick Hawthorne, the owner of Devil's Draft Pub, and his adventures. Frederick has human friends and other friends that are... not so human. Frederick encounters dragons, demons, faeries and the winged green lady.
The first thing I'd like to call attention to is the writing. This is a very well-written book. The way the author structures his sentences and strings words together is well-done and keeps you hooked. I also appreciated that while there is descriptive details shared, it is not overly done to the point that you're reading three pages of descriptions on what someone is wearing or the scene. I appreciate a book that gives you enough details to paint the picture but gives the reader creative freedom to imagine the scenes and characters for themselves.
The next thing to call out is that while this is fantasy and meant to be dark at times, there are some very witty statements made and the character's dialogue is funny and engaging. I don't want to call out some of my favorite statements because I think you'll appreciate them more when you read them for the first time yourself but, there are some very good one-liners and statements in here that I appreciated.
I gave this book 🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮 and I recommend it if you like fantasy and books that are action packed. The nature of the several stories in one book keeps things moving along and I think this is a quick, enjoyable read for anyone looking for a good book to read in an afternoon.
